“I decided to go to Iraq. I was extremely brave. So brave, in fact, that I wanted to award myself the Congressional Medal of Honor,” Donald Trump told the audience.
He even checked with his team to see if he had the authority to grant himself the decoration. The Republican acknowledged that the medal has been awarded to people who are “truly brave.”
“I mean, they come back without arms, without legs. Their stories are incredible. And I said it would be pushing it a bit if I gave myself one,” he reflected before saying he would try one day.
“Maybe I’ll win it in court, after everyone sues me, after the crazy radical left sues me. You know, I’m having fun,” Donald Trump continued.

The Medal of Honor is the most prestigious military decoration in the United States and was established in 1963 by President John F. Kennedy.
Only 3,528 of the 40 million soldiers who have served in the armed forces have received the medal.
This is not the first time Donald Trump has sought an award. In 2025, he made several statements claiming he deserved the 2025 Nobel Peace Prize, which ultimately went to Venezuelan María Corina Machado.
